The mission of the Landmark College Health Services is to maintain the optimal physical and emotional health of the student body and by so doing, contribute to the academic and social success of our students. We do this by providing quality clinical care and health education that promotes healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices.

Landmark College Health Services provides a wide range of medical care similar to your regular healthcare at home. We treat a variety of illnesses and injuries. We provide monitoring of chronic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure. We provide sexual health care, Women’s health, transgender care, support for smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition, and sleep issues. We also make referrals to area specialists as well as to other resources like physical therapists, chiropractors or dentists. We provide flu clinics annually during the fall semester. Blood drawing is offered on-site with lab samples sent to a local laboratory. Health Services clinicians collaborate routinely with Counseling staff with a student’s signed permission at enrollment.

Many students are on medications every day. Some of them require monthly refills because they are controlled substances such as stimulants or anxiety medications. Students can maintain their relationships with prescribers near their family home or they can connect with the part-time, consulting psychiatrist or full-time nurse practitioner here. Health Services staff can collaborate and organize with student’s existing providers to manage ongoing care, arrange pharmacy services or obtain lab specimens. Due to the fact that many students’ providers are out of state, Health Services can assist with prescriptions that are time-sensitive or require an in-state provider to prescribe them.

Students are seen by appointment on Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. To make an appointment, call Cindy Brown at (802) 387-1636. Health Services is closed on weekends and Holidays and after 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Landmark College Health and Counseling Services maintain a strict policy of confidentiality in an effort to protect a student’s privacy. This includes ALL Health and Counseling staff, full-time, part-time, and student employees. Health Service and Counseling records are kept separately. All medical records are confidential and are maintained separately from academic records. Health and Counseling Services’ privacy policies are based on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The clinicians of Health and Counseling Services collaborate routinely with your permission. No information is released without the student’s written authorization. This includes parents (unless the student is under 18). There are, however, certain circumstances in which confidentiality is waived:

When there is risk of imminent harm to self or others, the Health Service staff has a legal and ethical duty to do whatever is necessary to protect life.

A clinician may share pertinent information with other health and counseling staff members or with consulting physicians or Emergency Room staff for the purpose of providing the best possible care to students.

A court ordered subpoena could require Health service to release information contained in records or require health service staff to testify in court.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) governs how medical records are handled. Only Health Services staff may access your medical records on campus. No other Landmark College faculty, staff or administrators may access your medical records unless you make a signed release of that information. Health Services staff members maintain the confidentiality of your medical record and your care from other Landmark College staff and faculty unless you expressly consent, in writing, to share protected health information.

Students can request a copy of their medical record for themselves or another clinician by signing a release of Information form in Health Services.

Landmark College is no longer able to secure a pharmacy partner to deliver student medications to campus. Therefore students, and their parents, need to have very specific plans for obtaining prescription drugs while they are in residence.

It is very important to tend to this detail within the next few weeks before the January Term and Spring Term. The Transition of Medical and Mental Health Care to Landmark will help guide students and their families in considering how to manage wellness while on campus. 

Mail-order pharmacy delivery is the easiest method for students without transportation, and is Landmark College's preferred method of recieving medications. Call the customer service or pharmacy service number on the back of your insurance card to inquire which services they may allow. Most mail-order plans merely require set up of an online account and uploading of your insurance and payment information. The prescriber then sends prescriptions directly to the pharmacy portal and their medications are delivered directly to the student on campus. This includes stimulants and controlled substances. Students must attend to the “delivery address” in the account based on when they are on campus.

There is no pharmacy in Putney, but there are many local pharmacies students and their prescribers can utilize. Students who have a vehicle may drive to pick up medications within 10-20 minutes from campus. One can set up an account with any of the pharmacies providing them with your insurance and credit card information for copayments. Health Services will not set up accounts or facilitate pick-up of the medications. Health Services can help with pharmacy selection. Plan soon.

Why is it Landmark's preferred? Because this CVS location is open 24 hours a day, it's much easier to find a time (and a ride) to pickup the prescription without skipping valuable class time.

Sometimes talking with a friend or family member is not enough. Our counselors are trained mental health professionals with years of experience serving college students with learning differences and mental health concerns. We are personally, professionally, and legally committed to your right to privacy.

You may come to counseling when you are feeling stressed, upset, confused, or just curious. We offer you the opportunity to explore whatever is on your mind in a confidential setting so you can take full advantage of your time here at Landmark College.

In the first few sessions you can share your concerns, offer relevant history, and set some counseling goals for yourself. Each counseling experience is unique and depends on your readiness and ability to commit yourself to the goals you set for yourself. The process will help you learn new ways to manage feelings and situations, and gain understanding of yourself and others.

In some situations, a counselor might recommend that you participate in one of our groups or seek more intensive care with an off-campus provider.

Counseling Services at Landmark College see over 30% of our student body. We are committed to helping you cultivate the willingness and resilience needed to pursue both your academic and personal goals.

First, make counseling appointments a priority. Focus on what is most important to you, express your thoughts and feelings, be open and honest within the counseling relationship, and be patient with yourself; change takes time.

Counseling services at Landmark College are FREE! Appointments are generally 45 minutes once a week.
